Instructor

Colonel Tim Gillette has completed a 36-year career with the Broward Sheriff’s Office where he served in numerous upper command positions to include the Executive Director of the agency’s 2,600-member Department of Law Enforcement, Executive Director of the agency’s Department of Professional Standards, Director of the agency’s Institute for Criminal Justice Studies, and Chairperson of the Florida Training Center Directors Association. He also served as a Police Chief for two different municipalities and two large unincorporated areas. Additionally, he served in numerous supervisory positions to include Road Patrol Field Training Deputy, Road Patrol Sergeant, Road Patrol Lieutenant, and Criminal Investigations Detective Sergeant.

During his career, Colonel Tim Gillette was evaluated and promoted as one of the top three candidates in each of the four promotional processes he competed in. He also served as a nationally certified assessor and helped design his agency’s promotional processes and assessment center exercises for both Law Enforcement and Corrections. For the past 30 years, he has successfully trained thousands of public safety professionals throughout the country for their promotional processes. In doing so, his students have consistently achieved the highest scores in their promotional processes and become successful leaders in their organizations. 

Colonel Gillette is currently a certified law enforcement instructor and teaches leadership and criminal justice programs at Nova Southeastern University and Broward College Institute for Public Safety. He is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute and the Senior Management Institute for Police. He has earned a Doctorate degree in both Organizational Leadership and Higher Education Leadership, a Master of Science degree in Public Administration, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism. He has been published through the U.S. Department of Justice and the International City/County Managers Association.
